The Author

Barbara Masin, a resident of Santa Barbara, California, is the daughter of Joseph Masin, one of the five young men featured in the book. She was born in New York and grew up in Germany before returning to the United States with her family. Graduating from Yale College in 1989, she has since pursued a career in technology. Gauntlet is her first book. Her fluency in English, German, French and Spanish, as well as her knowledge of Czech, enabled her to do primary source research in the original languages.
